Modelling Competition 2015

Our latest competition again had three classes - an N Gauge building, a OO Gauge building and lastly a class covering any other item of modelling completed during the year. The N Gauge class was won by a Railway Museum building constructed from modified Scalecenes diesel engine sheds with a scratch built modern glass walled extension, the OO building prize was taken by a detailed signal box diorama and a rake of N gauge wagons completed the award winners. Pictures of all three winning entries are shown below.

Modelling Competition 2013

In 2013, the Club competition was open to any models or dioramas with a railway theme with no restrictions on scale or gauge. This was in order to attract more entries particularly from those members in the Club who had not participated in the competition before. The entries ranged from substantial dioramas in N gauge to a OO locomotive built from a metal kit and motorised. Four entries were awarded prizes, with a winner, second and joint third as pictured below.

Railway Structure Competition 2012

The competition for 2012 was the building of a structure which is directly railway related. As examples the structure could have been a station building, viaduct, signal box, footbridge, line-side hut etc. The structure was acceptable in any scale, any material and scratch or kit built. Independent judges were asked to consider the criteria of build quality, quality of finish, construction technique, design (if scratch built) and variation from standard (if kit built). The three entries awarded prizes are pictured below in the usual order.

Wagon Building Competition 2011

In October 2011, the Club held a competition which involved building a Dapol OO wagon kit and modifying, painting and weathering it as much as the builder wishes. Independent judges considered the criteria of overall appearance, construction quality, smoothness of running, paint finish and any identified modifications from the standard kit. The three entries judged to be the best are pictured below with the winner shown on the left.

Photograph Competition 2010

In October 2010, the Club held a photograph competition which was on the subject of the 'wider railway environment', not just trains. Independent judges considered the criteria of composition, originality, creativity, mounting and presentation. Three entries were awarded prizes and these are shown below with the winning photograph on the left.

Diorama Competition 2009

In October 2009, the Club held a diorama competition which attracted some excellent entries. The rules for the competition stipulated that the diorama must be a town or village scene with a railway connection and not have an area more than
144 square inches. Below is a selection of the dioramas with the winning entry in the bottom right picture.
